The Farnsworth Art Museum is thrilled to continue Momentum-an exhibition initiative dedicated to fostering bold ideas and providing a platform for creative expression. This series celebrates the artists who are shaping twenty-first-century art in Maine, offering them the opportunity to showcase their work in a solo museum exhibition.
The Farnsworth is unique in its mission to "celebrate Maine's role in American art," a vision set forth by its founder, Lucy Copeland Farnsworth, who in 1935 left explicit instructions to establish a museum dedicated to this cause. Supporting contemporary artists and showcasing their work has been at the heart of the museum's mission ever since. This year, it is a perfect alignment that participating Momentum artist Anne Buckwalter (born 1987) found inspiration in the Farnsworth Homestead. Her exploration of the intersection of history, identity, sexuality, and contemporary life exemplifies the museum's ongoing commitment to fostering today's creative voices.
